Program Description
This activity is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the evolving biological frameworks in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. Through a multidisciplinary lens, the program will explore current evidence on psychiatric manifestations in neurodegenerative conditions, such as Alzheimer’s dementia, and delve into the acute neurobiological effects of substances like cannabinoids in psychotic disorders. Topics will include updated clinical strategies for managing mood disorders, controversies surrounding pharmacologic approaches, and emerging models in schizophrenia treatment. Special attention will be given to suicide risk assessment, hormonal influences in psychiatric profiles, and the comparative effectiveness of long-acting injectables versus oral antipsychotics in psychosis relapse prevention. By the end of this activity, attendees will be better equipped to apply biologically informed practices to improve patient outcomes across various mental health conditions.
