Co-directed by award-winning composers Ricardo Arana and Eric Weaver, the Counter Clockwise Collective is a contemporary jazz orchestra born out of the University of North Texas, where the two met and began collaborating during their master’s studies.

The name is a playful nod to the UNT Lab Band system—where musicians progress through ensembles like the Two O’Clock and One O’Clock bands in a counter-clockwise direction. For Ricardo and Eric, moving into the professional world meant realizing the musical climb never stops, keeping the metaphorical clock arm turning in that same direction.

Their 12-track debut album, Counter Clockwise Collective Vol. 1 features a roster of talented artists and friends primarily from the Dallas-Fort Worth area that showcases fresh original compositions and arrangements by its leaders.
