Maicín

Maicín are an Irish five-piece making what they call “Channel-Surf Rock” — an eclectic blend of jangle pop, folk, new wave and boogie-woogie that channels a wide range of influences into something entirely their own.

The band began as a creative outlet for songwriter Matt Hurley and drummer Aidan Kelleher while working as architects in London. What started as weekly jam sessions soon evolved into a full band, completed by childhood friends and family members Darragh McNamara (bass), Méabh Fitzgerald (keys) and Ryan Daly (guitar).

Working with producer Oli Deakin (CMAT, Elanor Moss, Swimming Bell), Maicín have developed a sound that is both angular and melodic, where distorted guitars and omnichord sit comfortably alongside lap steel and harmonica. The result is a vibrant, unpredictable style that feels fresh while drawing from classic pop traditions.

Their rise has been rapid. In 2025, Maicín won both the UCC Battle of the Bands and the Intervarsity Battle of the Bands, cementing their status as one of Ireland’s most promising emerging acts. They have since toured the UK with Amble, performing at iconic venues including Barrowland Ballroom, Albert Hall and Shepherd’s Bush Empire, while building a strong following on stages across Ireland.
