Nightingale Performing Arts Australia is proud to present Mina’s Kadō (華道), a solo piano program by Australian Music Prize and APRA Music Award nominated Korean-Australian pianist and composer Mina Yu, inspired by the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy.
Mina’s Kadō invites audiences into a quiet, immersive listening experience guided by silence, resonance, and breath. Rather than spectacle, the music highlights beauty through restraint, creating intentional “empty” spaces where the ears can rest, and sound is allowed to emerge and fade naturally.
Mina Yu’s solo piano performance is combined with ambient field recordings of everyday life and subtle video projections, forming a gentle, multi-sensory environment. Presented as a relaxed performance, the program is suitable for all ages and welcomes audiences seeking a calm, reflective artistic experience.
Structured like kadō – the Japanese art of flower arrangement – the program values modesty, intimacy, and intentional placement. Works from Mina Yu’s album A Day and Life are presented alongside music by influential Asian composers including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Joe Hisaishi and Jung Jae-il (Parasite), tracing a shared sensitivity to space, fragility, and restraint.
Shaped by imperfection and quiet presence, Mina’s Kadō (華道) offers a concentrated listening experience that encourages stillness, attentiveness, and reflection on the beauty of everyday moments.
